Smoke billowing from the scene.

Two appliances from Newport and Ventnor extinguished a vehicle fire in Whitwell this evening (Friday).

Fire crews were called to the scene on Southford Lane shortly after 17:00 following reports of loud banging within the area.

A plume of black smoke could be seen bellowing from the area from several miles away.

One crew from Newport remained on the scene dampening down the vehicle and garage.

Firefighters spent around 30 minutes extinguishing the blaze, which has completely destroyed the front end of the Ford.

The other two vehicles within the yard which were saved.

There were no injuries and the country lane was temporarily blocked while the scene was made safe.
